ACTIVITIES
Peak District holidays are perfect for exploring this beautiful part of the world and enjoying the peaceful tranquility that nature has to offer. High Peak House is ideally situated for dog friendly walking holidays and boasts a number of fantastic walks that can be found right on the doorstep. However there are plenty of other activities nearby so there is something for all the family.
PEAK DISTRICT WALKS
There are dozens of beautiful walking trails directly outside the holiday cottage, making High Peak House the perfect base for a walking holiday. Our guest guidebook details our favourite hikes, including hikes across the Peak District moorland, walks through nearby woods and how to get to the picturesque chain of waterfalls nearby.
ROWING BOATS
Rowing boats can be hired from the nearby reservoir. Each boat can fit 3/4 people in making it a great family activity.
CYCLE HIRE
Bikes can be hired from a cycle shop in Hadfield which is conveniently located 5 minutes from the holiday cottage and at the start of the Longdendale Trail.
FLY FISHING
Why not try your hand at fly fishing? The fly fishery at the nearby reservoir is a 5 minute walk from the holiday cottage and offers tuition and provides all the kit you'll need.
ATTRACTIONS
The holiday cottage is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, yet close to Glossop and Manchester, there are a range of nearby attractions so you'll never be short of ideas for day trips.
CHATSWORTH HOUSE AND GARDENS
Chatsworth House is less than an hour's drive from the holiday cottage and makes a great day trip. Explore the house which is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, or enjoy walking around the ever-evolving gardens. There are often events and art exhibitions throughout the year.
HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM
The Heights of Abraham is a cable car that takes you over Matlock Bath. The views are spectacular but its not for the faint hearted!
MANOR PARK
Manor Park is a popular park in Glossop with a lake, floral displays, cafe and play area.
SHOPPING
The local village shop caters for essential supplies. There are two large supermarkets nearby and range of interesting shops and markets in nearby Glossop. If you fancy a bigger shopping trip, Manchester is within easy reach.
WHERE TO EAT
The local village has a great range of places to eat out and many of the venues are dog friendly. Enjoy a teacake and a cuppa at the cafe overlooking the reservoir, or take a short stroll to the local pub which serves cask beers and home cooked food.
The Bulls Head
The dog friendly pub is just a 5-10 minute walk from the holiday cottage and serves cask ales and tasty home cooked food. The owners and very friendly and will ensure you and your group are well looked after.
Arnfield Reservoir Cafe
Sit and relax on the decking area with a tea cake and a cup of tea overlooking the beautiful reservoir. The cafe serves a range of food and ice cream. You can also hire boats or try your hand at fly fishing.
PIXIE BAKES
Pixie Bakes offers a range of healthy meals, homemade cakes, treats, fresh bread and gifts. There is indoor and outdoor seating or you can take away.
RESTAURANTS & TAKE AWAYS
There is a great selection of restaurants within a short drive of the holiday cottage. Particular favourites include Windy Harbour and Hyssops. Nearby take away options include Station Road Chippy and Hollingworth Food Spot which delivers to the door.
